Description

The FinOps Lead is responsible for ensuring that every Rand or Pound invested in cloud services delivers measurable business value. This role sits at the intersection of Technology, Finance and Business, providing commercial leadership that enables teams to innovate responsibly while maintaining financial discipline.
The FinOps Lead will establish and drive a culture where engineering teams understand the cost impact of their decisions, business leaders have transparency into technology consumption, and executives can confidently invest in strategic cloud and AI initiatives. This role is instrumental in helping Investec maximise value from its cloud investments, accelerate transformation programmes and create a sustainable economic model for the bank's future technology platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Financial Management
• Define and execute the enterprise FinOps strategy
• Establish governance, policies and standards for cloud financial management
• Manage cloud spend across Azure, OCI and other strategic platforms
• Develop forecasting, budgeting and financial planning processes for cloud services
• Monitor consumption trends and identify financial risks and opportunities
Cost Optimisation & Value Realisation
• Identify optimisation opportunities across infrastructure, platform and application services
• Drive adoption of cost-efficient architectural and engineering practices
• Measure and report realised savings and business value outcomes
• Partner with engineering teams to embed cost awareness into solution design and operational decision making
• Ensure that cloud investments deliver measurable returns
Commercial & Strategic Leadership
• Provide commercial insight to strategic transformation programmes
• Support cloud migration business cases and investment decisions
• Evaluate technology choices through a financial and value lens
• Partner with procurement and vendor management teams to optimise commercial agreements
• Influence technology roadmaps through evidence-based financial analysis
Reporting & Insights
• Develop executive dashboards and insights for senior leadership
• Provide transparent reporting on cloud consumption, trends and forecasts
• Establish meaningful unit economics and showback/chargeback capabilities
• Deliver actionable recommendations rather than historical reporting
• Enable data-driven investment decisions
FinOps Capability Development
• Build and mature FinOps practices across the organisation
• Create a culture of cost ownership within engineering and product teams
• Educate stakeholders on cloud economics and financial accountability
• Define FinOps operating models, processes and ways of working
• Introduce automation to improve visibility, forecasting and optimisation outcomes
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
• Significant experience in FinOps, Cloud Financial Management or Technology Commercial Management
• Deep understanding of public cloud services such as Azure, OCI and AWS
• Strong financial management, budgeting and forecasting capability
• Experience implementing FinOps practices in large-scale cloud environments
• Advanced analytical and data interpretation skills
• Ability to translate technical concepts into business outcomes
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills with experience presenting insights to executive audiences
• FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Professional is advantageous
• Experience supporting cloud transformation programmes is advantageous
• Knowledge of platform engineering and cloud-native architectures is advantageous
• Experience with cloud cost management tooling and automation is advantageous
• Proficiency in using AI-enabled productivity tools, such as Copilot, to improve efficiency, generate insight and support decision-making. Applies critical thinking and sound judgement when interpreting outputs, remains accountable for the quality and accuracy of their work
