Description

Investec is looking for an AI Platform Engineer to help build, deploy and support the cloud platform capabilities used by AI and machine-learning solutions. The role is hands-on and delivery focused, with accountability for assigned platform components, production reliability, automation, security and technical documentation. The engineer will work with software engineers, data and AI specialists, architects, security teams and business technology teams to move AI solutions safely into production. 

Key Responsibilities

• Build, configure and support Azure-based platform services used by AI, machine-learning and intelligent automation solutions. 

• Create and maintain reusable infrastructure components using Terraform or equivalent infrastructure-as-code tooling. 

• Build and support CI/CD pipelines for platform infrastructure, APIs, containers, data services and AI workloads. 

• Deploy and operate containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes, with appropriate configuration and release controls. 

• Implement monitoring, dashboards and alerts for availability, latency, capacity, failures and resource consumption. 

• Provide production support, investigate incidents, contribute to root-cause analysis and maintain operational runbooks. 

• Apply identity, access, secrets-management and secure API-integration controls in line with Investec security and risk requirements. 

• Monitor cloud usage and identify practical opportunities to improve platform efficiency and manage cost. 

• Contribute to technical designs, peer reviews, testing, release-readiness checks and platform standards. 

• Maintain clear architecture diagrams, deployment guides, configuration documentation and support procedures. 

• Work in an agile engineering team, estimate assigned work, communicate dependencies early and deliver to agreed quality standards. 

• Continuously develop knowledge of Azure AI services, MLOps, responsible AI and cloud-platform engineering. 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

• Approximately 3+ years of relevant experience in cloud engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, infrastructure engineering or MLOps. 

• Practical experience deploying or supporting cloud workloads in a production environment; exposure to AI or machine-learning workloads is advantageous. 
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and services such as Azure DevOps, Azure AI Foundry or Azure Machine Learning is advantageous. 
• Practical experience with infrastructure-as-code, preferably Terraform
• Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines and using Git-based source control. 
• Working experience with Docker, Kubernetes, APIs and cloud-native services. 
• Experience implementing monitoring, alerting and operational support using tools such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Dynatrace, Grafana or OpenTelemetry. 
• Working knowledge of cloud security fundamentals, including identity and access management, managed identities, secrets and secure API integration
• Ability to troubleshoot across infrastructure, application and integration layers and to document findings clearly. 
• Sound software-engineering practices, including peer review, testing, automation and controlled releases. 
• A collaborative, accountable and curious approach, with the ability to engage engineers, architects, control functions and business stakeholders. 
• Experience in financial services or another regulated environment is advantageous. 
• A relevant tertiary qualification in computer science, information technology, engineering or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent practical experience may be considered. 
• Azure Fundamentals or equivalent foundational cloud knowledge is expected. 
• Role-relevant certifications such as Azure AI Engineer Associate, Azure Developer Associate, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert or Terraform Associate are advantageous and may form part of an agreed development plan. 
• Proficiency in using AI-enabled productivity tools, such as Copilot, to improve efficiency, generate insight and support decision-making. Applies critical thinking and sound judgement when interpreting outputs, remains accountable for the quality and accuracy of their work
