Core Banking Functional Business Analyst (13209)

Description

Co-own and drive the functional design for core banking capabilities within Investec's Core Banking Modernisation Programme, translating business strategy, product intent and regulatory/control requirements into standardised, testable functional specifications that can be implemented in a Finacle-aligned target state with governed localisations where required. The role ensures end-to-end functional traceability (outcomes → requirements → backlog → test assets) and that solutions are operable, controlled and implementable at scale.

Key responsibilities
•    Functional design & requirements
•    Elicit, analyse and document functional requirements and detailed acceptance criteria, including exceptions and edge cases.
•    Produce and maintain key functional artefacts (BPMN flows, business rules/DMN, use cases, personas, functional specifications) to support build and test.
•    Maintain end to end traceability from programme outcomes to delivered capability and test coverage.

•    Standardisation & localisation governance
o    Define global patterns (e.g., account lifecycle, posting/charges/interest, limits, mandates, disputes) and manage controlled localisation through a governed variance log and decision framework.
•    Controls, MI & operability-by-design
o    Specify operational controls, auditability, regulatory reporting needs, reconciliation requirements, KPIs/SLAs and evidence artefacts for assurance and go-live readiness.
o    Ensure operational considerations are embedded early (support processes, monitoring/logging requirements, day 2 procedures) to enable stable run and supportability.

•    Delivery partnership (Agile)
o    Partner with Product Owners and SMEs to shape backlog, prioritisation and sequencing to programme outcomes.
o    Support delivery squads with ongoing clarification during build/test/release and contribute to test strategy and scenario coverage.

•    UAT, business proving, migration & cutover
o    Govern UAT and business proving scenario design, coverage, traceability, defect triage and sign off criteria.
o    Support migration and cutover: validate functional impacts of data mappings, define parallel-run scenarios, reconciliations and early-life stabilisation activities.

•    Collaboration across disciplines
o    Work closely with Technical Analysts, architects, integration teams, data teams, testers and vendors to ensure functional intent is translated accurately into configuration, integrations, data and non-functional acceptance criteria.

Experience
•    8–12 years' Business/Functional Analysis experience in banking/financial services.
•    Core banking platform exposure (Finacle preferred) across major modules.
•    Delivery experience on complex, integrated programmes (modernisation/migration, product launches, regulatory change).

Skills & capabilities
•     Strong core banking knowledge (customers, accounts, products, payments; cards/lending a plus).
•     Skilled in requirements elicitation, workshops, process modelling, business rules, and clear acceptance criteria.
•     Maintains end to end traceability from outcomes to requirements, backlog, and tests.
•     Designs effective controls, MI/KPIs, reconciliations, and audit evidence.
•     Manages diverse stakeholders and simplifies complexity to drive decisions.
•     Confident working with data and technical teams (data mapping, SQL, investigations).
•    Strong facilitation and documentation skills.
•    Collaborative and relationship-driven; comfortable working across regions, delivery squads and vendors.
•    Delivery-focused: supports squads through build/test/release with timely clarification and pragmatic decision making.

Qualifications & certifications

•    Bachelor's degree in information systems, Computer Science, Commerce (or equivalent practical experience).
•    Preferred: Finacle Core Banking Certified Professional; Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) or similar business analysis certification.
