Description

Investec Wealth & Investment is looking a data Engineer to join the Swiss team, however the person is based in Johannesburg. This role involves the design, development and implementation of new solutions, maintenance, enhancement, and support of existing systems.  There is a range of systems within the environment with integration points between them to other systems in the bank.  An ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a proactive mind-set focused on identifying and mitigating risks and resolving issues will be key to your success in this role.  You will also need the ability to collaborate and facilitate around the best solution, with the team and relevant architects as well as conceptualize the big picture while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. Collaboration with different stakeholders will be required, particularly with business analysts to better understand the requirements and provide the technical impact of solutions.  You will need to ensure that business requirements are transformed into technical design and code.  In addition, you will need to ensure that code is of acceptable quality, aligns with our technical strategy, and has been unit tested adequately before handing over for testing. 

Key Responsibilities

Architecture and Design Leadership: 
o    Lead the design and delivery of scalable data engineering solutions across multiple banking systems, shaping the data architecture and platforms with resilience and performance.

End-to-End Data Pipeline Ownership:
o    Own end-to-end data pipelines (ingestion to consumption): design, development, testing, deployment; ensure data quality and reliability; mentor and review junior engineers. 

Stakeholder Collaboration: 
o    Collaborate with business analysts, product owners, and architects to translate complex requirements into robust technical designs, ensuring alignment with enterprise data strategy and timelines.

Operational Readiness, Quality Assurance and Delivery Excellence: 
o    Drive production readiness and operational excellence: implement unit tests, maintain CI/CD artefacts, conduct code reviews, and execute monitoring, incident management, and remediation to sustain stability.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

o    Microsoft SQL Data Stack (SSIS, SSAS, SQL, SSRS, PowerBI, Report Builder)
o    Azure DevOps, Azure Functions, Azure Web Apps, Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse studio
o    C#, Python and TSQL would be advantageous
o    An understanding of Agile methodologies
o    Experience in Data analysis and modelling would be advantageous
