Head of Compliance – Retail and Intermediary (11601)

Description

The Head of Compliance for Retail and Intermediary will lead the compliance team within the Corporate and Institutional Banking department. This role is crucial in ensuring that the organisation adheres to all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies, particularly within the South African regulatory framework. The incumbent will work closely with senior management to implement and maintain a robust compliance culture and strategy across the business

  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies and procedures in line with South African legislation and international best practices
  • Monitor and assess compliance risks within the Global Markets division, ensuring adherence to various regulations and rules including from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), the Prudential Authority, the Financial Intelligence Centre, and the Information Regulator
  • Provide expert guidance on compliance matters, including anti-money laundering (AML), market conduct, and financial crime matters
  • Conduct regular compliance training and awareness programmes for staff within the Retail and Intermediary division
  • Lead compliance investigations and manage reporting to senior management and regulatory bodies
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including risk management, legal, and operational teams to ensure a cohesive approach to compliance
  • Assist with the drafting and maintaining of compliance Risk Management Plans (RMPs) on applicable legislation, including the respective control environments and monitoring conducted
  • Reporting – Management Information (MI)
  • Develop and facilitate Business Unit training, which includes the oversight of training reporting and record keeping
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry developments affecting Global Markets and ensure timely implementation of necessary changes. Relevant legislation, including the:
    • Financial Sector Regulation Act
    • Prevention of Organised Crime Act
    • Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA)
    • FAIS
    • Conduct Standards for Banks
    • POPIA

Experience, skills and capability

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification
  • Relevant specialist qualification in compliance (advantageous)
  • At least 8 years post graduate/articles experience in financial services, preferably banking and or asset management
